αὐγάζειν.4

ἡ θεοφάνια ἦταν πάντα μιὰ ἔκπληξη ἐκτάκτου μεγέθους καί, σὰν τέτοια, ἀλλοίωνε τὶς συνειδήσεις τῶν πασχόντων την μὲ τὴν ὀμορφιά καὶ τὸ νόημα ποὺ αὐτὴ φώτιζε τὰ πράγματα. (τὸ νόημα τους συνίστατο σὲ αὐτὴν ἀκριβῶς τὴν ὀμορφιά.)
ὅμως παρέμενε πάντα μιὰ ἔκπληξη ἔξω ἀπὸ αὐτὸν τὸν κόσμο ποὺ αὐτὴ ὀμόρφαινε καὶ νοηματοδοτοῦσε. ἔτσι, ἂν καὶ γινόταν ἡ ἀφορμὴ νὰ φανερωθῆ ὁ λόγος τῶν πραγμάτων, αὐτὸς ὁ λόγος ἦταν μυθικός, γιὰ πάντα ξένος ἀπὸ τὴν κοινὴ ἐμπειρία——τὴν μόνη κοινωνήσιμη ἐμπειρία.

ἡ Σάρκωση τοῦ Λόγου ἦρθε νὰ καταργήση τὴν δουλεία τοῦ μύθου·
νὰ καταστήση τὴν ὀμορφιά διαρκές, ἀνεξίτηλο καὶ καθολικὰ κοινωνήσιμο ἰδίωμά τοῦ κόσμου στὶς συνειδήσεις ποὺ θὰ ἀνοίγονταν στὴν ταπείνωσή του·
νὰ ἀποδώση στὰ πράγματα τὸ φυσικό τους νόημα.
ἡ Σάρκωση τοῦ Λόγου εἶναι ἡ Ἔκπληξη ἀπὸ ὅπου πηγάζει κάθε ἔκπληξη. 

ὅσοι, ἔκτοτε, σφετερίζονται τὸ ὄνομα αὐτῆς τῆς Ἔκπληξης γιὰ νὰ χτίσουν ἱεραρχικὲς δομές, προσπαθοῦν νὰ νεκραναστήσουν τὸν μύθο καὶ νὰ φυλακίσουν τὶς συνειδήσεις στὰ δεσμὰ τῆς ἰδιοτέλειας καὶ τῆς ἀνάγκης. κλήρα τους εἶναι ἡ ἀσχήμια χωρὶς τέλος. γιατὶ ὁ νομικὸς μύθος εἶναι ἡ τάξη τοῦ σκοταδιοῦ, καὶ στὸ σκοτάδι δὲν στέκεται καμμιὰ ὀμορφιά, μόνο σκιές.

theophany was always a wonder of an extraordinary magnitude and, as such, altered the consciousnesses who were undergone the beauty and the meaning she lighted the things. (their meaning consisted in this very beauty.)
yet she ever remained a wonder beyond this world she beautified and signified. so, although she was being the motive to be the logos of the things reveled, this logos was mythic, forever alien to the common experience——the only partakable experience.

the Incarnation of Logos came to put an end to the slavery of the myth;
to establish beauty as the lasting, unfading and universally participative quality of the world for these consciousnesses who would open themselves to his humility;
to attribute to things their natural meaning.
the Incarnation of Logos is the Wonder from which every wonder is issued. 

since then, they who usurp the name of this Wonder in order to establish hierarchical orders, seek to resuscitate the myth and to restrain the consciousnesses with the bonds of selfishness and of necessity. their lot is ugliness without end. for the legal myth is the order of darkness, and in the dark cannot stand any beauty; only shadows.
