philosophy, in comparison with dialogue, is like masturbation in comparison with making love--a closure of self's openness and contingency into its own naturalness.
yet, we insist in it, either out of aporia, or out of hope of attracting the other into a dialogue.
philosophy as a masturbation is certainly a "study of death" (Plato).
